The difference between an abandoned, neglected, or abused dog finding a permanent, loving home and dying alone and unwanted is NorSled – and you. So please consider NorSled in your financial and estate planning. This responsibility is not taken lightly. It is at the core of our mission to insure that every dollar we receive is spent carefully, wisely and effectively for those in our care.

Over the last few thousand years, dogs have become a reflection of what people want them to be. Whether a gentle, tiny companion or a tireless worker, their appearance, attributes and behavior have been bred into them.  But the Northern Breeds are an exception and come to us pretty much the way nature intended.  Their keen senses, intelligence, strength and endurance have been passed down over time with minimal human interference, making them closer to the "original dog" than other breeds.  But what makes these dogs so unique also puts them at a very high risk of neglect, abandonment and abuse.

NorSled's dogs come from public shelters, where we find them starving, matted, dirty and often with serious medical problems or injuries.  Many have been so abused or neglected that they are emotionally shut down.  Huskies aren't low maintenance "backyard dogs" nor are they couch potatoes content with passive lives.  The irresistible Christmas puppy, within a few short months, grows into a dog that belongs in a home where s/he's understood, appreciated and well cared for.

But many Huskies are bought by people who don't understand the breed, especially their need for activity and adventure.  The result is that many of these wonderful, sensitive dogs end up at public shelters.  Their owners turned them in or abandoned them, often giving it as much thought as throwing away yesterday's newspaper.  Some dogs ran away rather than continue to suffer.  But regardless of why they ended up at the shelter, each of them has something in common:  unless someone comes to their aid, they will all die not for anything they've done but simply because no one wants them.

Imagine being in a cage where the noise level is deafening.  Imagine sharing that cage with other dogs that could hurt you or take what little food is available.  It is dark, cold and scary.  The smell of death is in the air and frightened dogs are pulled by a catch pole as they pass your cage, never to return.   Imagine your own pet in that situation. And since life is life --- imagine yourself in that situation.

The difference between their finding a permanent, loving home and dying alone and unwanted is NorSled --and you.  So please consider NorSled in your financial and estate planning. We accept contributions not for our organization but ultimately on behalf of the animals we serve.  This responsibility is not taken lightly. It is at the core of our mission to insure that every dollar we receive is spent carefully, wisely and effectively for those in our care.
