COOL HAND LUKE - imagine a puppy born with a misshapen paw. He’ll have a difficult if not impossible time finding a forever family. Then imagine this same dog now an adult- not that cute puppy – dumped in a shelter, plagued with heartworm, an illness that requires fairly expensive treatment. No matter how sweet and friendly, this dog has few possibilities.
But Cool Hand Luke was lucky, Norsled found him and looked past the paw to the sweet, loving dog who deserved a chance at a new home. He needed medical attention and special care including weeks of quiet while recuperating from his heartworm treatment.
Cool’s foster family discovered he is sweet, loves to cuddle and really enjoys playing ball. I guess no one told him it might be difficult to get around with a bad foot, so he does just fine. He's an easygoing dog who longs to warm your lap and your heart, hear your troubles, share your joys – all for the price of a belly rub!
After weeks in foster care and completing his heartworm treatment, Cool has found his forever home where he continues to give his unconditional love. Cool is not atypical of the less than “perfect” dogs we work with. Without our extraordinary foster families, volunteering their homes, their time and their hearts, offering a supportive and understanding environment, other worthy canines might not be as lucky as Cool. The rewards of fostering -- to both human and canine -- are enormous. It’s win-win!! Could you be a foster parent? 2007 was a record year for NorSled, with more adoptions than ever before. We want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped us. Over the holidays NorSled held 4 Photos with Santa events at different Pet Food Expresses - thanks to the help of all the PFE staff. In addition, East Bay Mitsubishi hosted an adoption fair for us where we sent a record for the number of adoptions at one event - and even presented NorSled with a check for $250!
Thanks to all who donated to NorSled, participated in our Photos with Santa, provided discounted vet services or kenneling. And a special thanks to all the volunteers.

Who We Are
Northern CA Sled Dog Rescue (NORSLED) is a 501(c)(3) non profit all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering and finding homes for unwanted, abandoned and abused Northern breed dogs, including Siberian Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds, American Eskimos and mixes of same. We work throughout Northern California and parts of Nevada. We often provide extensive medical care as well. Donations to NorSled are tax deductible.

Northern California Sled Dog Rescue (NorSled) is an all-volunteer non-profit group dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and finding new homes for unwanted, abused and abandoned Siberian Huskies, Alaskan Malamutes, Samoyeds, and Northern-breed mixes in many Northern California counties including: Alameda, Butte, Contra Costa, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Sacramento, Solano, Sonoma, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba.

Meeting NorSled Dogs
You can meet your new best friend at a NorSled Adoption Fair. Most adoption fairs are held in Contra Costa and Solano counties. Click on schedule to see the schedule of our adoption fairs.
To see the dogs in NorSled program, click on Available Dogs. This page also includes dogs in local shelters and sled dogs whose owners are trying to find them new homes.

How You Can Help
Rescuing Nordic Breed dogs can be expensive. Many come to us needing
medical attention, some need behavioral training, and most need attention and love to get ready to go to their forever homes. We are always
looking for foster homes, shelter monitors and people to help with adoption fairs and fundraising. The main requirements are a good sense of
humor and extreme tolerance of dog hair!

Electronics Recycling Program
NorSled is now participating in the EcoPhones Recycling Fundraiser program. EcoPhones pays up to $300 per item that we submit!! Help us without spending any $$$$'s or time.
