Northern CA Sled Dog Rescue (NORSLED) is a 501(c)(3) non profit all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering and finding homes for unwanted, abandoned and abused Northern breed dogs, including Siberian Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds, American Eskimos and mixes of same. We work throughout Northern California and parts of Nevada. We often provide extensive medical care as well. Donations to NorSled are tax deductible. Please click the PayPal icon to support NorSled.
Please help NorSled. We work with shelters throughout Northern, Central and Southern California, and parts of Nevada, pulling the sled dogs, and finding them homes. We also pull the dogs that are not perfect - including those who have medical needs - recently we have brought in dogs that had severe skin infections, ingrown eyelashes, treatable tumors, broken bones, extreme glacoma to name a few cases. We work with vets to treat these dogs, rehabilitate them and find them homes. All of these dogs are now healthy, and some have already found homes! While the vets do give us discounts, these costs add up, and several cases recently have been very expensive for NorSled. Would you donate to help us continue to save these wonderfuld dogs?
The first way you can help is by donating funds to Norsled by clicking on the PayPal logo below.

Trooper (formerly Boldo) apparently escaped from his yard in Orange CA. He was hit by a vehicle, but his owners relinquished him, saying they couldn't afford any medical treatment. He languished in the shelter for at least a week with a broken pelvis; they had to amputate his tail it was so mutilated. Shelter workers kept hoping someone would claim him and help him - he was such a beautiful, happy boy.
Tireless and amazing Tammy at OCAC sent out the plea: this dog is worthy and needs help!!! Noone could or did come forward in the area, but that did not stop the Norsled Rescue team. We worked 24/7 last weekend and pulled out all the stops to get Trooper up to safety and vet care. It was an inspiring and amazing group of people who helped. Someone we had never even met volunteered to take one day off work and drive Trooper from Orange to Fresno and beyond. In Fresno he was met by another faithful transport and was able to make it to Franklin Ranch Vet iin Elk Grove. It was touch and go but Norsled did it (and in the process pulled several other dogs to safety, thereby making it triply worthwhile)!! I guess we thrive on adrenaline along with husky fur!!
This badly hurt dog, in much pain, needed a few days to rest at beautiful Franklin Ranch Vet. (If you've never been there well, it's worth a visit: kind, friendly, experienced, calming, gorgeous). Yesterday was my first face to face visit with Trooper. Of course you know I was bowled over - that gorgeous red fur, those stunning blue eyes full of love. If he had had a tail it would have been wagging. We kissed and hugged, and he was so happy to see friends.
Surgery is today for a broken pelvis which will require plating. The tail needs a bit of work, and if he is handling anesthetic well, we will also remove the growth on his foot. Let's all send up prayers and flares for this dog who exemplifies everything we love about the Husky breed. Undaunted, friendly, brave and amazing. Oh yes, and gorgeous!
Of course we need your financial help. And of course I know I just posted for two other dogs. But after you see the touching video and the pictures of this worthy canine, if you can help us pay for Trooper's expensive pelvic "rebuild" (these specialists will be giving a rescue discount of course) Please use the PayPal button on the left sidebar or mail a check to NorSled, P O Box 5784, Vallejo, CA 94591 . Designate any gifts for Trooper. We will keep you updated on him, as well as Samoyed LeyLey (another wonderful dog) and crowd fave bear Rainy, both recovering from surgery which your donations helped provide. These dogs are an inspiration to me and the other Norsled workers and we know you agree!!! Be sure to see all the photos AND the video.

Rescuing Nordic Breed dogs can be expensive. Many come to us needing medical attention, some need behavioral training, and most need attention and love to get ready to go to their forever homes. We are always looking for foster homes, shelter monitors and people to help with adoption fairs and fundraising. The main requirements are a good sense of humor and extreme tolerance of dog hair!
To contact us about membership information and volunteer opportunities, send an email to rescue@NorSled.org. Or go to your favorite shopping sites by way of our Shopping Links. NorSled receives a donation from the merchant for any purchases you make through this page.
Are you considering adopting a Nordic breed dog? Are you unsure of whether you're up for the challenge? Are you an experienced Nordic breed owner who has an extra warm blanket in your home and space to add one more member to your pack?
Please consider fostering a NorSled dog. We are in desperate need of foster homes for our dogs. We can no longer afford to keep our dogs in kennels and we would prefer them to be in a home.
If you have space in your heart and home please contact rescue@norsled.org.
